Get involved

Thoughtful service begins with the community’s actual needs.

AMTA Oregon welcomes outreach ideas that create ethical, useful opportunities for licensed massage therapists to contribute their skills and professional presence.

Outreach principles

Plan with care, consent, and realistic capacity.

A good idea still needs clear partners, appropriate scope, volunteer support, accessibility, logistics, safety, and respect for the people being served.

Listen

Begin with a real request

Outreach should respond to a community-defined need rather than assume what people want.

Scope

Keep services appropriate

Clarify what volunteers will and will not provide, including environment, touch, consent, and referral limits.

Access

Reduce barriers thoughtfully

Consider language, mobility, sensory needs, privacy, culture, transportation, and event design.

Volunteers

Protect volunteer capacity

Set clear shifts, responsibilities, supplies, supervision, breaks, and expectations.

Partners

Coordinate responsibly

Define who owns logistics, participant communication, incident response, and follow-up.

Review

Learn after the event

Gather feedback from the community, volunteers, and partners before repeating or expanding a project.

Propose an idea

Give us enough information to evaluate it.

Include the community or organization involved, the need being addressed, date and location, expected participants, proposed services, partner contacts, volunteer needs, and any known costs or risks.

Submitting an idea does not guarantee chapter participation. The board or appropriate committee will review fit, capacity, responsibility, and available resources.
